BIOSAHERB™ ACTIVATION

BiosaHerb™ Starter Culture is supplied by us as a concentrated starter culture in a "dormant" state. Before use, the starter culture is mixed with water, sugarcane molasses and kelp meal, after which activation takes place, during which the microorganisms multiply. To ensure the correct development of the different types of organisms, activation can only be carried out once. This means that a new starter culture must be used each time.

The mixing ratio for activating BiosaHerb™ starter culture:

• 94% warm water (between 38 and 40 degrees)
• 3% sugarcane molasses
• 3% BiosaHerb™ starter culture
• 0.3% kelp meal
• 0.3% sea salt
• Preferably around 0.2% herbs (read more about herbs further down)

Procedure

• Fill a clean steel or plastic container with lukewarm water (not chlorinated water).
• It is important that the container used is clean!
• Dissolve the sugarcane molasses in warm water  (max 50 degrees) and
  pour it into the plastic container. If you use a pressure washer to dissolve the sugarcane molasses, do not add the starter culture when the water contains a lot of air (the water is grey).

• Add the BiosaHerb™ starter culture when  the molasses is between 38 and 40 degrees, and stir.

• When the pH value is lower than 4 or after 2-3 days, 0.3% kelp meal, 0.3% sea salt and optionally culinary herbs are added. Kelp meal and optionally culinary herbs can be placed in a large, loose cloth bag, which will be easy to remove after the activation process. If the finished product is to be used for spraying or through a field sprayer, it is recommended to use a large, loose cloth bag to prevent it from clogging the nozzles. 

Use of herbs
When activating BiosaHerb™, it is possible to increase the product's effectiveness by adding local herbs during the process. The herbs are finely chopped and can optionally be placed in a large, loose cloth bag that is easy to remove after multiplication.

Depending on the intended use, you can freely choose between herbs/weeds that are known to be effective (see various herb books). Remember to use clean herbs without soil and roots!

Examples include:
Nettle, dandelion, ground ivy, mint varieties, birch leaves, kelp, tagetes, burdock and clover. It is recommended to use several types of plants together. This results in a great diversity of bioactive substances and greater stimulation to promote the growth of microorganisms. 

Temperature is important.

During activation, the mixture must have a temperature between 30°C and 39°C. Heating can be done with a 300-watt aquarium heater. Approximately 1-2W is used per liter to be heated, depending on the difference between room temperature and water temperature. After about 5 days, the heating element is removed, and it is stirred gently.
Remove any foam and added herbs. After another 3 days activation is ready to use. If you do not use a heating element, the container must be kept warm (20-35°C), but not in direct sunlight. At  temperatures below 30°C the process may take a little longer.

Anaerobic activation process
Activation should preferably take place without much access to oxygen. A piece of plastic on the surface of the liquid will be suitable for providing good conditions. During the process, CO2 is formed, which can be seen as bubbles on the surface. This CO2 will create overpressure if the activation takes place in an airtight container. Therefore, any lid must be loose until the process is finished after a total of 8-10 days. If you have access to a pH meter, you can monitor the formation of lactic acid. The process will be finished at a pH value of approximately 3.5.

Storage and shelf life
If activation has taken place under good hygienic conditions, the product has a good shelf life. If stored in clean, filled containers at a constant temperature and protected from light, it can be stored for at least 6 months.

200 L tank:
If you have a 200 L tank, the following are used: 5 L BiosaHerb™ Starter Culture,  5 L sugarcane molasses, 0.5 kg sea salt  and 0.5 kg kelp meal as well as optionally culinary herbs. This allows you to make 166.7 L of BiosaHerb™

1000 L pallet tank:
For a 1000 L pallet tank, the following are used: 30 L BiosaHerb™ Starter Culture,  30 L sugarcane molasses, 3 kg sea salt and 3 kg kelp meal as well as optionally culinary herbs.
